Victoria Park
Located within city limits, this lovely 27 acre park is a landmark feature of Nuwara Eliya that was established in 1897. During the summer, enjoy colourful roses and beautiful flowers - majority of which are foreign. The young ones will enjoy the children’s playground and miniature train ride located here.
Hakgala Botanical Garden
A visit to these botanical gardens is a must for nature lovers. Hakgala is famous for its gorgeous roses, shrubs and rare ferns, and has flowers from all parts of the world here.
Water Sports at Gregory Lake
Take a boat ride to truly experience Lake Gregory, which is one of the main attractions in Nuwara Eliya. Several other recreational activities are available at this family friendly lake – stroll through the area, enjoy jet ski rides, pedal on a swan boat out or just simply lay back on the grass and enjoy the surrounding area
Horse Rides
Enjoy a horse or pony ride on your holiday in Nuwara Eliya. Rides are available at the Racecourse and also adjacent to Lake Gregory. If you prefer watching thrilling horse races, there is an annual race that takes place in April, which is the peak season here
Horton Plains
Considered one of the world’s best nature reserves, Horton Plains is the only national park in Sri Lanka which allows visitors to walk on their own, and is characterized by gorgeous scenery. World’s End is located here, which is a sheer drop of over 800 m that offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills and valley below, as well as Bakers Falls. Enjoy a large number of extraordinary endemic flora and fauna – including captivating bird species that can only be viewed at Horton Plains, such as the Sri Lanka white - eye, Sri Lanka wood pigeon, Sri Lanka blue magpie and dull - blue flycatcher and fabulous flowers including Strobilanthes Sp. (of Acanthaceae family), Rhododendron arboretum and Exacum macranthum.
Moon Plains
Enjoy a scenic mountain jeep safari at Moon Plains, where you can view seven different mountain ranges, in addition to the dramatic 360-degree view of surrounding peaks from the Mini Worlds End. Spot a variety of wildlife as you make your way through the plains such as herds of elk, wild buffaloes, giant squirrels, wild boar, wild hares, porcupines and if you are lucky, even leopards. Moon Plains is also home to several endemic birds, making it a bird watching haven.
Waterfalls
Nuwara Eliya is blessed with endless waterfalls that cascade along the rugged hills making picture perfect moments. Waterfalls to look out for include Devon Falls, St. Claire’s Falls, Ramboda Falls, Lover’s Leap Falls, Aberdeen Falls, Ravan Ella Falls and Laxapana Falls.
